Announcing The 2022 Champion Spelling Bee!
The Finals of the 2022 CSB will be held virtually the evening of Sunday, August 28 🗓️
Competition🐝
The 2022 Champion Spelling Bee is a competition designed for spellers preparing to compete at the highest level at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Spellers of all levels of experience are invited to enter.
Streaming📺
All stages of the 2022 Champion Spelling Bee will be streamed live on the 2022 CSB YouTube Account & on the 2022 CSB Facebook Page.
Round Results✍️
Round Results will be updated live on the 2022 Champion Spelling Bee Results page.
Participant Eligibility✔️
All participants in the 2022 Champion Spelling Bee must meet the following requirements:
- The speller must be in a Grade no earlier than Grade 3 & no later than Grade 8 in the 2022-2023 school year
- The speller must register to participate no later than Friday, August 27
Security🔒
The 2022 CSB will be taking strict & thorough measures to protect the integrity of the competition.
All spellers will be required to follow well-defined anti-cheating guidelines at all times — a violation of which will result in elimination.
Official Source & Rules📕
The official source of the 2022 CSB is Merriam-Webster Unabridged Online [unabridged.merriam-webster.com]. Beyond this, there is no specific study list for the competition.
The 2022 CSB will be a spelling-only competition. No vocabulary will be used.
Meet the Organizers 🎤
The executive organizers of the 2022 Champion Spelling Bee are Akshita Balaji & Cole Shafer-Ray.


Akshita Balaji is a former speller who attended the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2019 & 2021 — placing 21st globally in 2021.
Her long list of spelling accomplishments also includes being the Runner-Up of the 2021 North South Foundation Senior National Spelling Bee, and placing 3rd & 5th in the 2020 & 2021 SpellPundit Senior National Spelling Bee, respectively.
Akshita is currently a coach. In 2022, as a resource to aspiring spellers, Akshita created the site queenbeespelling.com.


Cole Shafer-Ray is a spelling coach with 5 years of coaching experience.
Cole participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2013, 2014, & 2015, and was the Runner-Up of the competition in 2015.
Every year, Cole works with a few dedicated spellers aiming to succeed at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Cole has coached several top performers at Scripps, including five Top 5 finishers at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2021 & 2022.
